Modern medicine believes that an imbalance of hormones and a genetic predisposition are linked to this condition. Generally, contraceptives, hormones and other medications are used to treat it. However, there can be drug dependence and a number of side effects. Some patients may experience abdominal discomfort, headaches, breast swelling, depression, weight gain and loss of libido, etc. These side effects often make patients feel very uncomfortable. These side effects are often very distressing for patients.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, this disease is mainly caused by a blockage of circulation in the meridians, liver congestion, and spleen and kidney deficiency. Acupuncture can regulate endocrine secretion, improve insulin resistance and reduce weight and fat. The effect of acupuncture is produced by stimulating the intrinsic functions of the body's tissues and organs, which can regulate endocrine function in a variety of ways and goals, lower serum androgen and insulin levels and LH levels, or normalise the ratio of LH/FSH to restore normal ovulation of the ovaries. Once the body is able to regulate ovulation automatically, menstruation will occur as planned and the problem will gradually be solved.
