Nearsightedness (myopia)

Nearsighted people have problems seeing distant objects. This is because either their eyeball is too long or the refractive power of the eye is too big.

Symptoms

  • Blurred vision

  • Tired, strained eyes

  • Headache

According to TCM, dysfunction of the body's internal organs, the inability of meridians to flow smoothly, and the inability of the body's Qi and blood to reach the eyes can lead to myopia and other vision problems in children. Among the five organs, the eyes are a window to the liver, and the health of the eyes is closely related to the blood supply to the liver. Constant use of the eyes or prolonged use of the eyes at short distances can deplete the blood of the liver, which is an important factor in myopia and other vision problems.

Acupuncture therapy for preventing myopia is one of the proven and widely used methods. Acupuncture treats myopia primarily by promoting, regulating and stimulating the body's self-regulatory function and self-healing powers. Chinese herbal medicine, eye massage, ear acupuncture, as well as moxibustion can also have some effect on improving vision fatigue.
