Hysterical aphonia

In general, hysterical attacks are considered to be symptoms caused by psychological factors in patients with certain tendencies.

Symptoms

  • Loss of voice

  • Pain when speaking

  • Neck tension, headaches

  • Swallowing difficulties

  • Emotional outbursts

The seizures are paroxysmal and the clinical symptoms are complex and variable. Depending on the type and form of the symptoms, a distinction is made between the conversion type and the dissociative type. The former is dominated by somatic disturbances, such as hysterical paralysis, loss of voice, night blindness, deafness, dysphagia, etc., while the dissociative type may cause mental attacks, such as emotional outbursts, loud crying and angry screaming, or even hysterical fainting spells.

Acupuncture has a satisfactory effect in treating hysteria, especially in some dissociative patients for whom suggestive therapy has difficulty working. It also enables most people to control and improve their psychological symptoms.
