Diseases of the digestive system

The most common diseases of the digestive system are gastritis, gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. They also include diseases of the liver and gallbladder such as liver stones, cirrhosis, cholecystitis or gallbladder stones, as well as pancreatitis, chronic enteritis or acute enteritis.

Common manifestations include weakness, symptoms of high gastric acidity, flatulence, stomach pain, abdominal distention, belching, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea and various other symptoms related to the function of the digestive tract.

The Spleen and Stomach are the source of Qi and Blood. "Spleen and Stomach" in Traditional Chinese Medicine are similar to the digestive system in modern medicine in their physiological functions and clinical manifestations. For some diseases of the digestive system, treatment with Chinese medicine or a combination of Chinese and Western medicine is often better than treatment with Western medicine alone. For example, the use of qingyi brew (phytotherapy) in the treatment of acute pancreatitis and stone throwing brew (phytotherapy) in the treatment of bile duct stones have been shown to be very effective.

Acupuncture is very effective in treating digestive system conditions such as stomach pain, bloating, abdominal pain, constipation and diarrhoea.

Acupuncture has a regulating effect on the movement of the oesophagus, which increases the movement of the stomach and promotes gastric emptying. Needling acupuncture points such as foot sanli can relieve stomach cramps, relieve pain and prevent vomiting. Acupuncture can increase the tone of the stomach in patients with gastroptosis and promote stomach movement. Studies have shown that acupuncture has a significant regulatory effect on the secretion of gastric acid and gastrin. Acupuncture can lower serum gastrin levels in patients with chronic gastritis and bring them back to normal.

Acupuncture also has a significant effect on the secretory and absorptive function of the small intestine.

Acupuncture is very effective in treating diseases of the digestive system and can generally achieve good results when combined with cupping and Tuina massage. The combination of acupuncture and herbal medicine is important for the treatment of complex digestive system disorders.
