In neurogenic bladder disease, acupuncture can lower the urinary threshold of the bladder, increase the tone of the bladder muscle and induce voiding by increasing the internal bladder pressure; it can also cause contraction of the detrusor muscle so that the amount of residual urine decreases or even disappears. Warm moxibustion of the Guan Yuan, Qi Hai, Ming Men and Shen Yu points can also increase myoelectric stimulation of the detrusor muscle.
