Dysmenorrhoea refers to periodic abdominal pain, cramps or lumbosacral pain during or around menstruation, which may be accompanied by clinical symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, etc. In severe cases, there may be cold sweats or even fainting spells. Statistics show that dysmenorrhoea occurs in adolescent women in about 82% of cases.

  • Nausea, vomiting, weakness

  • Sweating

Modern medicine distinguishes between primary and secondary dysmenorrhoea. Treatment is usually with calcium blockers and oral contraceptives, which temporarily relieve the pain. However, women tend to have a recurrence of symptoms after stopping the medication.

Acupuncture has a rapid and significant pain-relieving effect on dysmenorrhoea. Acupuncture regulates the patient's prostaglandin F2 secretion and relieves the cramping contractions; in addition, it can block the excitatory effect of prostaglandin F2 on the uterus. In addition, the treatment can be supplemented with phytotherapy for an even better and faster effect.
