Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disease characterised by elevated blood sugar levels.
TCM considers the entire course of diabetes to be divided into four natural stages of development: congestion, heat, deficiency and loss. The congestion stage corresponds to the pre-diabetic stage, the heat stage is usually found in the early stages of diabetes, the deficiency stage is usually found in the middle stage and the loss stage is found in the late stage. Nowadays, detection is generally divided into upper, middle and lower stages.

How does acupuncture treat diabetes and when is it used?
Acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine can be used at different stages, for example, in the congestion stage it can help clear qi and blood and relieve congestion in the liver; in the heat stage it can help clear heat, moisten dryness and nourish yin; in the deficiency stage it can help nourish the kidneys and strengthen the spleen; in the loss stage multimodal treatment should be given. The earlier the treatment, the better the prognosis.
What should I consider in my diet for diabetes?
In general, attention should be paid to a varied diet with grains, high fibre intake, low salt, low sugar and low fat.
